Police safety orders

The Police issue Police Safety Orders (PSOs) to provide protection for victims and their families, giving them the opportunity to assess their ongoing safety and receive necessary support.

While the PSO is in effect, the individual who is subject to the order (referred to as the bound person) is prohibited from assaulting, harassing, threatening, stalking, or intimidating the protected person.

They are also not allowed to come near any property or building occupied by the protected person, regardless of their legal or equitable interest in the property.

Additionally, the bound person is not permitted to communicate with the protected person through any means, including through a third party.

Any children residing with the protected person are automatically included under the protection of the PSO.

Furthermore, access to any children covered by a parenting order or agreement is temporarily suspended in favor of the person at risk while the PSO remains in effect.

It is important to note that the Police have the authority to issue a PSO without requiring consent from the parties involved.
